Michael has been with Pets First Animal Clinic since March of 2000, first as an associate veterinarian while also working at the animal emergency clinic. He purchased the practice in July of 2006. His veterinary interests include surgery, internal medicine, and orthopedics. Dr. McKown hails from the badger state of Wisconsin where he did his undergrad as well as veterinary school (1994 grad). He is one of only a handful of veterinarians in the valley who perform a complicated knee surgery for dogs suffering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). He is married to his wife Marcie, an esthetician, and enjoys spending time with her and their many pets. In his free time, Dr. Michael enjoys traveling, tennis, game nights, and sport-fishing.
Carol Eklund, DVM
Dr. Eklund attended the University of Nebraska's undergraduate program before attending Oklahoma State University where she received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1979. From there she moved west and worked at Mountain View Animal Hospital here in Boise for approximately 8 years. Then in 1987, Dr. Eklund and her husband Marty opened the doors of Pets First Animal Clinic. In 1994 they moved to a new facility where Pets First now stands. She always strives for excellence in her patient care with her vast knowledge and never-ending compassion. Dr. Eklund had special interest in internal medicine and dermatology. Her other interests include horseback riding, hiking, cross-country skiing and Bible study. Dr. Eklund also spends her time devoting to the Eagle Christian Church and an organization called "Ride for Joy." Joshua Frost, DVM
Dr. Frost joined the Pets First team in the summer of 2009. He earned his degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Illinois in 1996. He enjoys general medicine and surgery with a special interest in preventative medicine, public health and behavior. Dr. Frost is active in organizations like large breed dog rescues and rehabilitation. One of the most rewarding aspects of being a veterinarian for him is witnessing the positive impact dogs and cats have on the people they live with. It is truly a gift to be able to enhance that special bond between a person and a pet. At home, Dr. Frost has a 6 year old Golden Retriever named Ripley, two 3 year old cats named KoKo and YumYum, wife Lisa and 2 daughters, Jillian and Edie.
Sarah Wolverton, D.C
Dr. Wolverton graduated with a bachelors in Kinesiology from the University of Colorado in 2000 and received her Doctor of Chiropractic degree at Palmer College of Chiropractic West in 2004. In 2007 she studied Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation or VOM in St. Louis, MO. In Dr. Wolverton's spare time she enjoys horseback riding, snowboarding, camping, biking, hiking with her dog and golfing. She is involved with many activities such as the Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, BBB, volunteers her time to the Ride for Joy horse club and organizes "Santa Paws" in December for ZamZow's (100% of the proceeds go to the Idaho Humane Society). At home Dr. Wolverton has a 3 year old Golden Retriever named Kuma and a 10 year old cat named Gilligan. Although she originally received her degrees in chiropractic for people, chiropractic on animals had been very rewarding. She loves helping them get relief from their pain so they can continue to enjoy their lives with their loved ones!
